Appliances in the kitchen have also become multifunctional, and we are looking to buy those that are easier to use, which saves the effort of doing all the work. Instant pots, slow cookers, and rice cookers have become the norm and are used in every household. This article will mainly focus on the use of instant pots.
What is instant pot?
InstPot Pot is a potent electric pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, and yogurt maker in one package. It is designed to be a safe, convenient, and dependable electric device.
Instant pot safety:
Are instant pots safe?
Yes, Instant Pots are very safe kitchen appliances as long as you follow the instructions and indications in the manual. However, while pressure cooking, too much food or liquid in your Instant Pot can lead to dangerous pressure levels. The pre-cooked food and liquid in the inner pot should exceed the two-thirds line.
Many people who buy instant pots are concerned about how long it takes to heat up and cook evenly and properly. Does it get heated quickly, or will it take time? Can the instant pot exploit
Can an Instant Pot Explode?
Instant Pots do not explode because they have more than ten safety features to prevent them from operating unsafely. Instant pots will automatically stop working or reduce the internal pressure if the sensors indicate any problem.
Now, I will show you how Instant Pot is safe and give you a list of its safety features.
Here’s a list of some of the safety features that Instant Pot and other pressure cookers typically have that, in my opinion, can prevent explosions:
- Pressure Regulator: This helps control and maintain the pressure inside the cooker, ensuring it stays within safe levels.
- Safety Lid Lock: The lid is designed to lock in place while the cooker is in use, preventing it from being opened until the pressure has been safely released.
- Overpressure Protection: If the pressure inside the cooker exceeds a certain level, this feature will activate and release pressure to prevent an explosion.
- Temperature Control: The cooker has a temperature sensor that helps to regulate the heat and prevent the temperature from getting too high, which can cause an explosion.
- Automatic Pressure Release: This feature safely releases the pressure inside the cooker if it becomes too high, preventing an explosion.
- Excess Pressure Protection: Some Instant Pots also have an additional safety mechanism that detects excess pressure and automatically turns off the heat to prevent an explosion.
- Anti-Block Shield: This feature helps to prevent food particles from clogging the steam release valve, which can cause an explosion.
It’s important to note that while these safety features can reduce the risk of an explosion, it’s still essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines to ensure the safe use of the pressure cooker.
How many instant pots have exploded?
There were ten reported instant pot accidents in the US where instant pots have exploded in the last three years in the US based on my research in 2023. Instant pot explosions can occur in the following cases:
- if there are manufacturing defects
- if users fail to put in enough water
- if the vent gets clogged
- if the lid is opened too soon,
- if safety features like the blowout preventer were unable to work correctly.
- If users overfill their Instant Pot
